Gardening
Each class has a session of gardening a week led by our gardening instructor. A lot of our learners enjoy being in the outdoor environment and we are able to build on the individuals love of the outdoors to develop an understanding of how our world works. This is achieved in different ways for different groups of pupils. When pupils are in Early Years they will often be learning through exploring, experimenting and experiencing the garden throughout the year. Pupils in Lower / Middle School have a blend of learning though both some child led learning as well as more adult directed and collaborative gardening tasks and activities. This is further built upon as Pupils enter the Upper School.
The carefully considered gardening provision for pupils means that pupils demonstrate a confidence and understanding of how the world works in a garden environment and are confident to apply their knowledge of this to complete a variety of gardening tasks and activities correctly.
As well as weekly gardening sessions each class have the opportunity to access Forest School for a duration of half a term each academic year. This off-site provision is based on a holistic learning approach which enables each pupil to experience risk, challenge and to initiate and drive their own learning and development in an outdoor natural environment. We see pupils continue to flourish in this environment and engage in the broad number of learning opportunities being in the outdoors offers.
