Watling View School

Curriculum

Watling View offers pupils a personalised stimulating curriculum to ensure every pupil can learn, develop and make progress.  The overall intent of our curriculum is known across the school using the acronym SLICK. We aim to develop individuals

*Social Skills

*Life Skills

*Independence

*Communication

*Key Skills

We feel passionately that all pupils are entitled to an individualised curriculum that is rich in opportunities that will support them as they grow and develop through the school and into adulthood. The curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of all pupils and ensures that pupils are equipped with the cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

For more information about the schools curriculum, the best place to look is in the information and links below, on the individual curriculum areas and to see how this is implemented in our learning galleries.

Planning at Watling View

Themes

We implement a thematic approach to learning to create a fully immersive learning environment. Each department follow different themes.

Topics

Where themes operate across subjects, topics are used to organise learning within a subject.

Intent, Implementation and Impact Statements

Curriculum co-ordinators write intent, implementation and impact statements that set out the overall ambitions of the curriculum in that subject area. These are informed and guided by our SLICK model of curriculum intent.

Long Term Plan

Curriculum co-ordinators write long term plans that show how a broad and varied curriculum is implemented over the long term in each subject area.

Medium Term Plans

Curriculum co-ordinators write half termly Medium Term Plans that link to the half termly topic on the medium term plan. The broad learning objectives are expanded upon with proposed learning activities that can achieve these objectives.

Short Term Planning Grids

Class teachers complete short term planning grids on a two weekly basis so to plan how best to personalise learning activities to meet the needs of individuals in their class and identify how they are going to work on individuals PLGs.
