Cafe
At Watling View we have recently developed an operational cafe which is led by our HLTA cafe lead working alongside pupils in the Upper School. This provides pupils with a valuable opportunity to develop and apply skills and knowledge in a real life work based context and supports them with the skills they need for a life beyond Watling View. This includes developing skills such as communication, reading, writing, cleaning, cooking, weights and measures, capacity and money as well as developing an understanding about the world of work.
Pupils in the Upper School have the opportunity to take on a number of different roles and we have seen how well our pupils have been able to flourish in this environment. Pupils throughout the school have an opportunity to access the cafe to buy snack. This supports pupils to learn everyday skills in a school based environment which is reflective of experiences our pupils will have in the local community. We have seen how well pupils have been able to use this learnt knowledge in the local community.
We also have a link with a local cafe where some pupils in the Upper School complete off-site work experience.
